A Rockin’ Good Time at the Jackpot Saloon
I posted these pix on lawrence.com.
Superargo opened up the set at the Jackpot Saloon last Thursday night. The Skullhead lip synched and rocked out on the mic. The laptop-mixed-up music was loud, glitchy and infectious. The crowd loved the anti-corporate/patriotic slide show mixed into the set.
Evan Saatoff was up next. He’s a local music artist with a sweet indie pop sound. Maybe a bit too mellow, since his set ended up competiting with the crowd noise in the bar.
Deerhoof headlined the show. The bay area band got a warm welcome from the Lawrence crowd. They had a great noisey set - crunchy guitars, frentic drums and deconstructed harmonies.
Satomi Matsuzaki’s breathy vocals floated over the noisy punk pop set. When she wasn’t rocking out on the guitar, she struck a few kung-fu poses to the crowd’s delight.
